01The wrap
A ladies lungi is never cut into shape. It is one printed piece — wrapped, tucked and worn as it comes off the bale — so the cloth has to work as a whole garment rather than as metres a tailor will carve up. That changes how it is printed. The border has to land where the wearer expects it. The motif has to still read once the piece is folded in half around the body.
We print this range on cotton in Surat for wholesalers, retail counters and traders who sell the lungi as a finished piece rather than by the metre. Three designs run under it: Udata Mayur, Gundri and Mandala.
Below is what we can tell you about each one honestly, and what you need to send us so the first reply you get is a real answer instead of another question.
02The designs
Ask for them by name. Names move faster than specifications in this trade, and two sellers can mean two different cloths by the same word.
The name is a peacock in flight, and the motif is why the design sells — a bird carries colour across a piece in a way a geometric fill never manages.
Motif scale is the first thing that shifts between markets. Say whether your counter wants the peacock read from across a shop or small and dense in the hand, and it can be struck off both ways before you commit.
Gundri is its own design in this book, not a colourway of another one. If two sellers have quoted you Gundri and sent two different cloths, that is the reason.
Send a daylight photograph of the piece you have seen. We will tell you whether it matches what we print or whether it does not, which is a faster conversation than describing it in words.
A mandala works outward from a centre, and the centre is the problem to solve. A medallion that sits beautifully on a flat piece can end up folded at the waist once the cloth is wrapped.
So piece length matters more here than anywhere else in the range. Tell us the length your market wraps to and the medallion gets placed to it, rather than to a length we guessed.

04Straight answers
Both exist in the market and they are not the same job. A panelled piece is laid out so each length comes off as a finished garment with its border in place. A continuous run is printed as yardage and cut afterwards. The layout has to be settled before anything is printed, so tell us how you sell — by the piece or by the metre — at enquiry rather than after a strike-off.
Colourway is the part of this range that moves most between markets, so we treat it as a question rather than a fixed list. Send the shade as a photograph of actual cloth rather than a screen colour — screens misrepresent reds and indigo in particular. It is struck off, you approve the physical sample, and bulk runs to what you approved.
There is no single length. Piece length is a market decision: the same design goes out at different lengths depending on who wears it and how they wrap. We print to the length you specify, which is why we ask for it before quoting. If you are opening a new market rather than restocking a known one, measure a piece already selling there and send us that measurement.
The honest answer is usually close rather than identical, and you should be wary of anyone who promises identical before seeing the cloth. Post the piece if you can. If you cannot, photograph it flat in daylight with a coin or a ruler in the frame for scale. We will tell you what can be matched on the ground and the motif, and what would have to change.
No. Each design is quoted on its own. Putting more than one into a single run can change the economics of that run, and if it does, it shows up in your quotation as a different figure rather than as a claim on this page.
