Holland-inspired prints

The contrast is
the whole point.

Holland names a look, not a country of origin. Buyers ask for it by name across the counter, and they mean colour that holds its edge.

01The genre

Holland print is a genre name. It came out of the Dutch wax printing tradition — dense grounds, hard colour contrast and the broken line that wax leaves behind — and the look travelled a long way past the mills that started it. Today a buyer in Kathmandu and a buyer in Surat can both ask for Holland and mean the same thing: strong colour that keeps its edge, over a ground that does not go quiet underneath it.

We print Holland-inspired designs on cotton in Surat. Three run under this range: Holland Lungi, Pro Holland and Manipuri Holland.

This page exists because of what happens when you search for Holland Lungi. You get directory listings — a company name, a phone number, and no answer to a single question you actually have. Nobody tells you what separates one Holland from another, or who is printing it. We print it. So here is what we can tell you.

02The book

What runs under Holland

There is no registry that decides what a Holland is. That is exactly why a photograph settles in ten seconds what a name will argue about for a week.

01

Holland Lungi

This is the name buyers use, and it was not invented for a website. It is what the cloth is called across the counter in Nepal and in parts of India, which is why it is the name on this page.

If someone has put a Holland Lungi in front of you and you want that ground, send the photograph. We will say plainly whether ours matches it, sits next to it, or does not come close.

02

Pro Holland

Same genre, separate design. Worth knowing: when a seller attaches Pro to a name, that is their naming, not a grade anybody can verify on your behalf.

So ask whoever quoted you which design they actually mean, then send us the piece. Cloth answers this question. Adjectives do not.

03

Manipuri Holland

The first word names a market, the second names the print genre. That tells you more about who the design is for than about what sits on it.

If you sell into the north-east or into a market that buys in that direction, say so at enquiry. It changes which colourways go in front of you first.

03Your enquiry

What to put in your first message

A Holland enquiry that arrives with a photograph gets a real answer. One that arrives with the word "Holland" gets a request for a photograph.

Send your Holland enquiry
  1. 01

A daylight photograph of the Holland you want matched — or of the one you are trying to beat.

  2. 02

The ground colour that sells for you, and the one still sitting in your godown.

  3. 03

Whether the cloth leaves as a lungi piece or as yardage for a stitching unit.

  4. 04

Your destination city and how the consignment crosses. A land crossing at Birgunj and a container out of a port are not the same job on paper.

  5. 05

The quantity you actually intend to place. A round number invented to test us changes the answer you get back.

Holland questions

Is this genuine Dutch wax cloth?

No, and we are not going to let you walk into an order thinking it is. These are Holland-inspired prints on cotton, printed in Surat. What carries over is the design language — hard contrast, dense ground, that broken line — not the process or the origin. If the distinction matters to whoever you sell to, raise it now rather than after the bale is open.

Why do two sellers quote me different cloth for the same Holland Lungi?

Because the name describes a look and nothing else. There is no standard that fixes what Holland Lungi is, so one seller applies it to a design another would call something different. This is why we ask for an image before quoting: the picture removes the argument, and it removes it before anyone has spent money on a sample of the wrong thing.

Can you print a Holland design in my own colourway?

Colour is what does the work in a Holland, so this is the usual conversation rather than a special request. Send the shade as cloth or as a printed swatch if you possibly can. A colour on a phone is a suggestion; a colour in the hand is an instruction. What is technically possible for your chosen design is confirmed at sampling, before bulk.

I buy in Nepal. Can I deal with the mill directly?

Nepal is one of the three markets we supply, alongside India and Indonesia, and enquiries reach the mill rather than a call centre. Write with the destination city and the quantity you have in mind, and we will set out how the order would work from Surat and what has to be ready at your end. Route, documents and timing are agreed per consignment and written into the quotation.

Will the colour in bulk match my approved sample?

It runs to the strike-off you approved — that is the entire purpose of the strike-off. Shade does move slightly between lots. That is true of printed cotton anywhere, and a mill that promises you identical lots is telling you what you want to hear. The conversation worth having is how much variation your market tolerates and what happens to a lot that falls outside it. Settle that in writing before bulk, not after.

Send the photograph.
We will read the cloth.

Tell us the design, quantity and destination. Let’s take it from there.
